Day 205 – Psalm 59

“O LORD our shield…” Psalm 59:11

DEEP SPIRITUAL INSIGHTS

Praying offers such deep spiritual insights. David learned many deep lessons even as he prayed. He knew that he had to apply his faith even as he prayed. He also learned that he had to wait upon the Lord even as he prayed. He could not hurry God in any way! The following text offers yet another rich spiritual insight.

“Do not slay them, lest my people forget;
Scatter them by Your power, and bring them down,
O LORD our shield.”
Psalm 59:11

1. Understanding why God had not immediately answered prayer

a) Had David desired the death of his enemies?
b) Now there was a new perspective to pray about.

2.”Do not slay them, lest my people forget”

a) Slaying of the enemies may provide immediate relief.
b) But what if all enemies were slain the moment prayers of deliverance are offered to God?
c) “Lest my people forget”
i) Would the mere slaying of enemies be the best answer that could be desired?
ii) David was now inclined to say “No!”
iii) It was important that “his people” would learn deep spiritual lessons too.
iv) They must not forget the rich spiritual lessons that were being taught.

3. “Scatter them by Your power, and bring them down”

a) The wicked still need to be opposed.
b) David would be content with the Power of God scattering the enemies.
c) He would be happy to see them brought down in defeat.

4. “O LORD our shield”

God was indeed the shield of the righteous! That surely must be a foundational truth that must be held close to the heart! The heart must learn to rest assured while waiting upon the Lord.
