Day 126 – Psalm 51

“My mouth shall show forth Your praise…” Psalm 51:15

IN PRAISE OF GOD

David could almost feel a rush of inspiration as he spoke to God humbly in prayer. He had much to confess and he poured out his whole heart to the Lord in abject humility. As he prayed on, he knew that God had indeed forgiven him and had indeed given him a new heart and spirit.

“O LORD, open my lips
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.”
Psalm 51:15

1. “O LORD”

a) David had moved from the formal “O God”.
b) Once again, he used the name that spoke of a covenantal relationship with God. He was “LORD” (Exodus 6:3-8).

2. “Open my lips”

a) Inspiration ultimately comes from God.
b) Inspiration however was only the first aspect to consider.
c) David wanted to be sure that God would approve of what he hoped to do. Approval from God was the second aspect to consider.

3. “And my mouth shall show forth Your praise”

a) David would not speak of how he felt.
i) There would have been much to share.
ii) He could speak of joy and peace felt.
b) He would rather show forth God’s praise.
i) He would praise God for all His glorious attributes.
ii) He would praise God for the salvation that He offers to all who would turn to Him for pardon from sin, and full restoration.
