Day 94 – Psalm 50
“The Mighty One, God the LORD, has spoken…” Psalm 50:1
CONCERN ABOUT WHAT GOD HAS SPOKEN
The ministry of this special group of Levites besides sacred music was the Word of God. The following texts make this very clear.
“Of the sons of Asaph:
Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah and Asharelah;
the sons of Asaph were under the direction
of Asaph, who prophesied according to the
order of the king.”
1 Chronicles 25:2
1. “According to the order of the king”
a) This does not mean that the king could order prophecies.
b) The word “order” is a reference to the “calling” of each Levitical group.
i) Some were called to be “gatekeepers” (1 Chronicles 26:1-19).
ii) Other were called to look after the Temple treasury (1 Chronicles 26:20-32).
iii) Still others were called to serve in the ministry involving God’s Word (1 Chronicles 25:1, 2, 3, 5).
2. Asaph and his sons
a) Asaph was one of the leaders (together with Heman and Jeduthun- (1 Chronicles 25:1)).
b) His sons were blessed to work alongside their father Asaph (1 Chronicles 25:2, 9).
REGARD FOR GOD AND HIS WORD
Asaph displayed the highest regard for the Lord and His word.
“The Mighty One, God the LORD
Has spoken and called the earth
From the rising of the sun to its going down.”
Psalm 50:1
1. Lofty description of God
He is called “The Mighty One, God the Lord!”
2. His word
God’s word is not just for Israel but the entire earth!
