“I am God, your God!” Psalm 50:7c

A SOLEMN DECLARATION

God, having established His credential as a Righteous Judge, now proceeds to judge Israel.

“Hear, O My people, and I will speak,
O Israel, and I will testify against you:
I am God, your God!”
Psalm 50:7

1. God identifies Himself

a) He is God.

i) The Mighty One

ii) The LORD

b) He is the God of Israel.

i) He is the Covenant God of the nation.

ii) Israel entered into this relationship with God by sacrifice (Psalm 50:5).

2. Israel as the defendant

a) Israel is identified by name.

b) The nation is not an enemy state.

c) Israel is “(God’s) people”.

3. Charges

a) God Himself will lay the charge before Israel.

b) The charges could have been presented to Him by way of the oppressed who cry out to Him for justice.

c) The charges that would be laid before Israel would come from God Himself as One who had personally witnessed the veracity of the charges.
