Day 89 – Psalm 49

“But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave…” Psalm 49:15a

REDEMPTION OF THE SOUL

In the rush to acquire wealth, many forget about the importance of the soul. It was with great gratitude and joy that the following text was written.

“But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave,
For He shall receive me. (Selah)”
Psalm 49:15

1. “But God will redeem my soul”

a) The redemption of the soul should be the greatest of concerns of mankind.
b) This must be understood at the most personal level.
c) There must be full understanding and assurance that redemption has been made for the soul.
d) A personal faith in God as Redeemer must remain strong and intact.

2. “The power of the grave”

a) The grave was feared by one and all.
b) There was such a terrible sense of finality about the grave.
c) Hence the phrase “the power of the grave”.

3. God is greater than the grave

a) Death does not end everything.
b) There is hope of eternal life for the redeemed soul.

4. “He shall receive me”

a) Death has been conquered by God.
b) Redemption of the soul is God’s answer. At death God receives us to Himself in heaven.

(The word “selah” is probably a musical direction suggesting “emphasis” or “heightening”.)
