“Their inner thought…” Psalm 49:11
WHAT ARE THE HIDDEN THOUGHTS OF THE WEALTHY?
What are the inner thoughts of wealthy people? The following text is a candid and startling insight as to the inner thoughts of the arrogant rich.
“Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever,
Their dwelling places to all generations;
They call their lands after their own names.
Nevertheless man, though in honour, does not remain;
He is like the beasts that perish.”
Psalm 49:11-12
1. “Their inner thoughts”
a) That their houses would last forever.
b) Their dwelling place would last to all generations.
2. “They call their lands after their own names”
a) To honour themselves.
b) To testify to all their proud achievements.
c) All in the hope of achieving a lasting and honourable name.
3. “Nevertheless”
a) A sobering contrast is offered.
b) This is a jarring reality that is hard to absorb; but it must be declared.
4. “Man, though in honour does not remain”
a) Wealth may be classified under “honour”.
b) A wealthy may be regarded as “a man of honour” by those whom he has helped.
5. “He is like the beasts that perish”
This is a sobering reality that cannot be changed. One day, man will die as beasts die!
