“God will establish it forever.” Psalm 48:8c
ESTABLISHED BY GOD
It is one thing to commence, and it is another thing to become established. There must be humble recognition that God Himself must be the One who brings about establishment, or human efforts would be in vain.
“As we have heard, so we have seen
In the city of the LORD of hosts,
In the city of our God:
God will establish it forever.
Psalm 48:8
1. Stories about Jerusalem abounded
This is well-described in the following lines:
a) “As we have heard”
b) “So we have seen”
2. City
Mount Zion was known by several names:-
a) It was called “The City of David” (2 Samuel 5:7, 9).
b) It was also called “The city of the LORD of hosts”.
c) It was further known as “The city of our God”.
3. “God will establish it forever”
a) This is based on the promise of God to establish it (1 Kings 9:5).
b) This was based on faith that God would keep His word.
4. Actual establishment would however depend on walking in integrity with God.
“Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked,
in integrity and in uprightness, to do according
to all that I have commanded you…
Then I will establish the throne of your kingdom…”
