SUPERSCRIPTION

A simple and straightforward superscription was attached to Psalm 47:

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

The identity of the authors is ascertained. This psalm was presented to the chief musician.

RESOUNDING OVATION

The giving of a resounding ovation is not a modern day invention. One of the most natural ways of expressing delight is found in this text.

“Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples!
Shout to God with the voice of triumph!”
Psalm 47:1

1. “Oh, clap your hands”

a) Think of a worship leader making this announcement.
b) The congregation is encouraged to express itself in the clapping of hands.
c) Significance of hand clapping.
i) As an expression of delight.
ii) As a natural expression of joy.
iii) An expression that everyone can be involved in (including children).

2. “All you peoples”

a) The plural noun “peoples” is used on purpose.
b) It may be used to describe:-
i) Different groups of people in the congregation.
ii) It would mean that it could include “Gentiles”.

3. “Shout to God with the voice of triumph”

Triumph can be wonderfully expressed when it includes vigorous hand clapping and “shouts of joy”. (The mood here is one of vibrant joy; Exodus 15– The Song of Moses)!
