Day 55 – Psalm 46

“The tabernacle of the Most High…” Psalm 46:4b

SPECIALLY PROTECTED

Where may safety be truly found amidst volatile volcanic and seismic threats? We are introduced to a beautiful picture of absolute tranquility in the following text.

“There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.”
Psalm 46:4

1. The city of God

a) The place of complete serenity would be found in the city of God.
b) It will be especially protected because it is the city where God dwells.

2. “A river whose streams shall make glad the city of God”

a) In great contrast, the picture of gentle streams is offered.
b) The contrast offered is painted intentionally.

3. “The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High”

a) The tabernacle represents a sanctuary (“a place of refuge”) {Exodus 25:8}
b) The sanctuary of God would be holy to God.
c) The tabernacle would be God’s dwelling place.
d) He will certainly keep watch over His own city and protect it well.

APPLICATION

Two applications are to be carefully noted:

1. The old Jerusalem

This was the city that God especially watched over. His watchful eyes covered all its inhabitants. Sadly, the children of Israel disdained faith in God.

2. The new Jerusalem

The new Jerusalem is in mind here (Revelation 21). Blessed are all who truly trust in God.
