“Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long…” Psalm 44:22

SUFFERING IN LIFE

Suffering is to be expected as a natural part of our human existence on earth. There are many causes of suffering. The following may be highlighted:-

1. The wicked cause suffering.

2. The Evil One can inflict suffering.

3. We cause our own suffering.

4. We suffer for the sake of our faith in God.

PLEADING SUFFERING FOR THE LORD

The sons of Korah made a final submission to God concerning the suffering that was being endured.

“Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
Psalm 44:22

1. “For Your sake we are killed all day long”

a) If this is indeed true then suffering is not in vain.
b) But if this is true, then there must not be the feeling of indignation.

2. “We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter”

a) Israel was prey to many powerful nations.
b) The nation was indeed like sheep.

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO ALL SUFFERING FOR THE LORD

The apostle Peter wrote an excellent word concerning how we should comprehend suffering.

“If you are reproached for the name of Christ,
blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you…

If anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed,
but let him glorify God in this matter.”
1 Peter 4:14, 16
