UNDERSTANDING THE SOUL’S THIRST FOR GOD

How should we understand the soul’s thirst for God as described in the following text?

“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?”
Psalm 42:2

1. What creates this soul-thirst?

A number of factors can create soul-thirst. The following may be noted.

a) A natural desire

b) A new awakening

c) Difficult circumstances of life

d) A special stirring of our soul by God

e) A good response from our souls to the Lord

2. How does this soul-thirst express itself?

a) A sense of deep longing

b) Prayer

i) Pouring out of the heart in prayer

ii) Ardent seeking of God

c) Other efforts

i) Going to the House of the Lord

ii) Seeking God in service

iii) Waiting upon the Lord

iv) Heightened sense of awareness of things spiritual
