“He will rise up no more…” Psalm 41:8

THE PLOT HATCHED

The plot hatched by David’s enemies was sinister. It could have deadly consequences for it could result in de-stabilizing the nation!

” ‘An evil disease,’ they say, ‘clings to him.
And now that he lies down, he will rise no more.’ ”
Psalm 41:8

1. “They say”

a) We have a group of people making the same statement.

b) There was “strength” because it was not just one person saying it.

c) This group of people were supposedly “friends” of David.

d) They had come to see him when he was ill.

e) With false sincerity they make their report known to others.

2. “An evil disease… clings to him”

a) Innuendoes are employed.

b) Generalities… vagueness… they are used effectively.

c) Suggestion of “evil” is attached to the illness David suffered.

3. “And now that he lies down”

a) A bad prognosis is given.

b) David is too weak to sit up.

c) He is forced to lie down all the time.

d) Perhaps this “evil disease” was his punishment from the Lord.

4. “He will rise no more”

a) David would no longer be able to rule.

b) He would never fully recover! He would die soon!
