Day 359 – Psalm 41

“They devise my hurt…” Psalm 41:7

HATRED

What makes a person a deadly enemy? What fuels the activity of any enemy? Perhaps the following text would offer a valuable insight.

“All who hate me whisper together against me;
Against me they devise my hurt.”
Psalm 41:7

1. “All who hate me”

a) Hate may arise for many reasons:-
i) Grievances can cause hate.
ii) Injustice may cause hate (perceived or actual).
iii) Personal hurt or injury may cause hate.
iv) An unforgiving heart may lead to feelings of deep hatred.
b) Hatred loves company
i) It seldom exists alone.
ii) It will find some companions who feel a similar way.
iii) Hatred feeds on itself.
iv) Hatred can then become all-consuming.

2. “They devise my hurt”

a) Imagine a group of people bound together with deep feelings of hatred.
b) Imagine the brain-storming sessions they would have to devise hurt!

3. “All who hate me whisper together”

a) They meet up clandestinely.
b) They begin to mount a whispering campaign.
c) The effects are deadly… and great fear can be felt by the victim.
