Day 350 – Psalm 40

“Let all those who seek You rejoice” Psalm 40:16a

THE THINGS THAT THREATEN TO TAKE AWAY JOY

There are a number of things that threaten to take away joy from our hearts. David identified a number of these things.

1. The presence of innumerable evils can take away joy.

2. The problem of personal sins can also rob us of our joy.

3. The powerful feelings of depressive sadness can drain our joy very swiftly.

REGAINING JOY

David knew that he must regain joy. He must help others who stood with him to find joy in the Lord. To lack this joy would only make the battle against evil much harder.

“Let all those who seek You rejoice
and be glad in You…”
Psalm 40:16a

1. “Let all those who seek You”

a) David was not alone in this battle against evil.
b) Those who seek the Lord may regain joy
i) Through renewal of faith.
ii) Through believing that no one seeks God in vain.
iii) Through believing that God will bless those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

2. “And be glad in You”

a) Gladness may be found in the Person of the Lord.
b) He is a God of Joy (He gives joy to His children most willingly).
c) He is a God who can dispel sadness.
d) He will drive away terrible feelings of despair.
e) He will create a new sense of hope that brings joy.
