Day 342 – Psalm 40

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” Hebrews 10:25

THE ASSEMBLY OF GOD’S PEOPLE

In God’s profound wisdom, He provided all that we need to succeed in our faith. One of the special things He has provided is the creation of a community of faith.

1. Ancient Israel

a) Nationhood was meant to bring about needed encouragement.
b) The many Feasts of the Lord which the nation celebrated were meant to lift up the hearts of the people.

2. The Church

a) Regular worship is meant to assemble believers together.
b) Special worship programs are meant to bind the community of faith further.

THE CHALLENGE TO KEEP THE COMMUNITY STRONG

There will always be some who will neglect the assembly of saints. To address this problem the following word of exhortation was written.

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another,
and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:25

1. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as is the manner of some”

a) Some will indeed forsake church attendance.
b) This must be resisted and rejected.

2. “But exhorting one another”

a) We can and must do our part in exhorting each other to be faithful.
b) We must make full use of every opportunity to exhort each other.

3. “The Day approaching”

This is a veiled reference to the Day when the Lord Jesus will return to earth to establish His millennial kingdom. This is part of the glorious hope that all believers have in the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us hold fast to our faith, looking forward to Christ’s return.
