THE TABERNACLE WORSHIP

The Lord gave to ancient Israel a very great blessing when He established the Tabernacle worship. The Tabernacle would be symbolic of the sanctuary that all worshippers would find in the Lord. The Tabernacle would also symbolically represent the promise of God’s presence with them (Exodus 25:8).

In the Tabernacle there would be a special place called “The Holiest”. It was the innermost part of the Tabernacle. In this Most Holy Place the Ark of the Testimony was placed (Exodus 26:33). The Holiest was separated from the Holy Place by a thick veil. Just once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the high priest alone may enter into the Holiest Place to make a special sin offering to the Lord on behalf of the nation (Leviticus 16). Nobody else had access to the Holiest at any time of the year.

THROUGH THE DEATH OF CHRIST

One of the most profound blessings we have through the death of the Lord Jesus Christ may be found in the following text.

“Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest
by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He
consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh.”
Hebrews 10:19-20

1. “Boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus”

a) All believers (called “brethren” here) may enter into the Holiest.
b) This is made possible only by the shed blood of the Lord Jesus.

2. “By a new and living way which He consecrated for us”

a) A new way to enter into the very Presence of God was provided by Jesus.
b) This is aptly described as “a living way”.
i) It is not through dead rituals.
ii) It is through Jesus Himself as the way, the truth and the life.
c) This way has been consecrated for us.

3. “Through the veil, that is, His flesh”

The way into the Holiest is still through a veil – the flesh of the Lord Jesus Christ!
