Day 336 – Psalm 40

“He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever…” Hebrews 10:12a

THE SACRIFICE OF JESUS

The author of Hebrews drew an effective contrast between the many sacrifices needed in the old system and the perfect sacrifice of Jesus.

“And every priest stands ministering daily
and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices,
which can never take away sins.
But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice
for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,
from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.
For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are
being sanctified.”
Hebrews 10:12-14

THE IMPERFECT OLD SYSTEM

1. Every priest had to stand ministering daily.

2. They had to make the same sacrifices repeatedly.

3. These sacrifices had no power to take away sins at all.

THE PERFECT SACRIFICE

1. Jesus came as a man to offer Himself as a sacrifice for sins.

2. This one sacrifice was sufficient to atone for all our sins forever.

3. He sits at the right hand of God right now.

a) Sitting down
To represent that He has completed His work.
b) At the right hand of God
An expression of being in a position of supreme power.

THE BENEFICIARIES OF CHRIST’S DEATH

The beneficiaries are greatly blessed indeed!

1. Those who believe in the Lord Jesus are the beneficiaries; they are sometimes called “those who are being sanctified”.

2. They are “perfected forever” by the atonement Jesus made on their behalf!
