Day 335 – Psalm 40

“He takes away the first that He may establish the second…” Hebrews 10:9b

FULFILLING THE WILL OF GOD

The will of God is deeply profound. But Jesus fully comprehended what He must do to fulfill God’s will.

“Then He said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.’
He takes away the first that He may establish the second.
By that will we have been sanctified through the offering
of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
Hebrews 10:9-10

1. “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God”

a) No one had ever been able to do God’s will perfectly.
b) Jesus knew that He would have to do God’s will fully and perfectly if He were to accomplish God’s task for Him as the Saviour.
c) With a great sense of purpose He had come to do God’s will.

2. “He takes away the first that He may establish the second”

a) The first system had to be taken away first.
i) It could only be taken away if Jesus perfectly fulfilled God’s will.
ii) He would have to become the perfect sacrifice.
b) The second system would then be established.
i) It would all be based on the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus.
ii) Jesus through His death on the cross firmly established the second system.

3. “By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all”

a) Jesus offered His body as that perfect sacrifice.
b) Through Him we are fully sanctified before God.
c) There is no further need of any other sacrifice; Christ’s sacrifice would be “once for all”.
