“Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works…” Psalm 40:5a
THE WORKS AND THOUGHTS OF GOD
As David pondered over how the Lord graciously and mercifully delivered him, he came to a profound discovery.
“Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works
Which You have done;
And Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You
in order;
If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than
can be numbered.”
Psalm 40:5
1. “Many… are Your wonderful works”
The following may be cited as some of God’s wonderful works:-
a) Works of God on the national scale.
i) The creation of Israel as a nation as fulfillment of a promise made to Abraham.
ii) The deliverance and exodus from Egypt.
iii) The inheritance of the Promised Land in Canaan.
b) Works of God at a personal level
i) Prayers answered
ii) Deliverance from trouble
2. “Your thought… are more than can be numbered”
a) God’s thoughts are well manifested in the Scriptures.
b) The Scriptures would include the following:-
i) The Books of Moses
ii) The Prophetic books
iii) The Wisdom Literature (including Proverbs and Psalms)
