Day 325 – Psalm 40

“He has put a new song in my mouth…” Psalm 40:3

HEART-FELT JOY

How does one feel after experiencing a great Divine deliverance? The following text well described how he felt.

“He has put a new song in my mouth- praise to our God;
Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD.”
Psalm 40:3

1. “He has put a new song in my mouth”

a) David was a poet at heart and a composer of songs.
b) This new experience of the Lord’s merciful deliverance enabled him to create a new song.
c) Attributing the inspiration to compose to God Himself; this was David’s way of recognizing the Lord’s continued hand moving in his life

2. “Praise to our God”

a) The theme of this “new song” was appropriately “praise”.
b) However this was not something personal to David alone.
c) This Deliverer was Israel’s God (“our God”).

3. “Many will see it and fear”

a) David was confident that those who hear him share his testimony would understand (“see it”).
b) More than that, they would “fear” the Lord and stand in awe of the way He had delivered David!

4. “And will trust in the LORD”

a) An opportunity to trust the Lord for the first time would be given.
b) The testimony of David would also serve as a challenge for others to learn how to trust the Lord even more deeply.
c) David’s desire was that more would learn to wait on the Lord and trust Him.
