“Trust in the LORD, and do good.” Psalm 37:3a

ENCOURAGING SERIES OF ADVICE

How should evil be resisted effectively? Evil certainly cannot be fought with more evil! David gave a series of practical advice in Psalm 37:3-6.

1. “Trust in the LORD”

a) This is a key concept.
b) Faith in God must be expressed in full trust in Him.

2. Expressions of trust in the Lord

a) Keep on “doing good”.
b) Dwell in the land
i) Even if there is much evil.
ii) Trust that good would prevail one day.
c) Feed on God’s faithfulness
i) The soul must be fed in order for it to be nourished and sustained.
ii) Great food for the soul is the Person of God and His faithfulness.
iii) Feeding the soul is vital in the fight against evil.
d) Delight yourself also in the LORD
i) Focus on the Lord must not be lost.
ii) Joy in the Lord must be maintained.
iii) God would reward by fulfilling good desires Psalm 37:4b
e) Commit your way to the LORD Psalm 37:5a (Cf. Proverbs 3:5-6)
i) God will not fail those who commit their ways to Him.
ii) He will vindicate those who trust in Him and will proclaim their righteousness and their justice as the light of noonday Psalm 37:5-6
