“Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous…” Psalm 33:1a

REJOICING IN THE LORD

Faith in God was meant to bring joy to our life! Joy should be the most natural feeling to have in our hearts. Yet not many know how to rejoice in the Lord. To be sure David had his share of sorrows in life. But despite the hard times that must be expected, he was also determined that he would always be able to rejoice in the Lord.

“Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous!
For praise from the upright is beautiful.”
Psalm 33:1

1. “Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous”

a) Wrong ideas about being righteous include the following:-
i) To focus on the problem of sin.
ii) To think that God wants us to be so serious minded there is no room for joy.
iii) To think that God would bless only when we are somber or solemn.
b) The correct idea about being righteous:-
i) To find great joy through faith in the Lord.
ii) To be able to rejoice in our faith in God, notwithstanding the problem of sin.
iii) To locate the source of joy in the Person of God Himself.

2. “Praise from the upright is beautiful”

a) True joy in the Lord would express itself in praising the Lord.
b) The truly upright will always be able to speak words of joy that bring great encouragement to people.
c) Praise from the upright is beautiful for the following reasons:-
i) It is genuine.
ii) It comes from a heart that has truly known great joy.
