Day 242 – Psalm 31

“My times are in Your hand” Psalm 31:15a

LEARNING TO TRUST IN THE LORD IN ALL SEASONS OF LIFE

As there are different seasons in nature, so there are different seasons in life. David had experienced good times. He had also experienced some very tough times. Along the way he learned how to offer this prayer to God.

“My times are in Your hand;
Deliver me from the hand of my enemies,
And from those who persecute me.
Make Your face shine upon Your servant;
Save me for Your mercies’ sake”
Psalm 31:15-16

1. “My times are in Your hand”

a) Whatever the situations in life David must trust the Lord!
b) He must believe that God is in absolute control at all times.

2. Prayer requests

a) God’s Deliverance
i) Deliverance from enemies is sought.
ii) Deliverance from persecution is also sought.
b) God’s face to shine upon David
i) A reference to God’s favour
ii) This is a valid blessing that may be traced to the famous Aaronic benediction (Numbers 6:23-26).
c) God’s mercies
i) A reference to knowledge of God’s revelation of Himself to Moses (Exodus 34:6).
ii) A reference to past experiences of the Lord’s mercy (Psalm 34:7).

3. Pleading as a servant of God

David’s requests were made with great humility. He knew his position before the Lord as one who is but a servant (2 Samuel 7).
