Day 229 – Psalm 30

“I will give thanks to You forever.” Psalm 30:12b

DETERMINATION TO EXTOL THE LORD FOREVER

David had a harrowing experience of life. He found himself in such great danger that he knew he would have died, if God had not been his merciful Helper! The following text reveals the determination to never forget God’s mercy and to extol Him always.

“To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.
O LORD, my God, I will give thanks to You forever.”
Psalm 30:12

1. “To the end”

a) This speaks of high purpose.
b) This also speaks of determination to fulfill a goal.

2. Extolling the Lord

a) This is expressed in the singing of praise to the Lord.
b) This determination is underscored by the phrase “and not be silent”.
c) The giving of thanks is certainly an acceptable expression of extolling God.
d) The word “forever” was added for good measure.
i) This confirms the genuineness of the determination to extol God.
ii) It further heightens the fact that the gratitude felt in the heart is not superficial.

3. “My glory”

a) God has given man “glory”.
i) This is taught in the Scriptures (Genesis 1-2 “made in God’s image”)
ii) This was reflected in another psalm David wrote (Psalm 8:4).
b) Man’s glory is made up of who he is and what he has accomplished in his life.
c) Man must seek to extol God in the fullness of glory he is endowed with!
