Day 224 – Psalm 30

“His anger is but for a moment” Psalm 30:5

A FIFTH REASON TO EXTOL GOD

The acquisition of knowledge and faith in God should give us strong added reasons to extol Him. Let us ponder how David gained this piece of knowledge about the Lord.

“For His anger is but for a moment,
His favour is for life;
Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning.”
Psalm 30:5

1. God’s anger

a) God has a right to be angry
i) When man transgresses His laws.
ii) When man oppresses the weak and helpless.
b) Mercifully God does not retain His anger
i) His anger is “but for a moment”.
ii) There is forgiveness with God!
2. God’s favour
a) This is to be sought humbly.
b) The favour of God is to be found in His goodness and His mercy.

3. “Weeping may endure for a night”

a) Weeping is not a bad thing in itself.
b) Tears shed at being forgiven is a beautiful thing.
c) Weeping may come because of chastising from the Lord.

4. “But joy comes in the morning”

a) This joy speaks of a restored and repaired relationship with God.
b) Extolling the Lord should be characterized by this spirit of joy!
