Day 223 – Psalm 30

“Sing praise to the LORD, you saints of His…” Psalm 30:4

A FOURTH REASON TO EXTOL GOD

We have a fourth reason to extol the Lord. This reason is set in the form of an admonition. The following text offers excellent insight as to how we may extol God correctly.

“Sing praise to the LORD, you saints of His,
And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.”
Psalm 30:4

1. “You saints of His”

The term “saints” is a Biblical word. It has deep spiritual roots. It may well be traced to this text in Deuteronomy.

“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God;
the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself,
a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.”
Deuteronomy 7:6

a) The word “saint” is associated with the word “holy”.
b) As “saints” we are God’s special people.

2. Two expressions of extolling God are highlighted:-

a) Sing praises to the LORD
i) Singing of psalms or songs of praise is an excellent way of extolling God.
ii) The singing of praises must always be filled with energy and exuberance.
b) Give thanks
i) This may be in the form of a thanksgiving testimony.
ii) It may also be in the form of a thanksgiving prayer.

3. “At the remembrance of His holy Name”

Extolling the Lord should be a most natural thing for all saints of God! At the merest thought of God’s name, our souls should be stirred to extol Him! What a great and wonderful God we have- that He should call us His holy and special treasure!
