Day 216 – Psalm 29

“Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” Psalm 29:2b

SUPERSCRIPTION

Psalm 29 also has a simple superscription that ascribed authorship to David. The theme of Psalm 29 is the “worship of the LORD”.

THE DAVIDIC PSALMS

The psalms of David were written on separate occasions and in different circumstances. Almost all reflected the Lord’s hand of mercy. He heard prayers. He delivered David out of many dire situations.

A STRONG DESIRE TO WORSHIP GOD

It is most understandable that David felt the strongest desire to worship this God who had been his Shield and Strength. All that David could wish for he found in the Lord. How should he worship this great God of his?

“Give unto the LORD, O you mighty ones,
Give to the LORD glory and strength.
Give to the LORD the glory due to His name;
Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.”
Psalm 29:1-2

GIVE UNTO THE LORD

This phrase “Give unto the LORD” was repeated three times over for good reason!

1. It is used for “focus”.

2. It is also used for “emphasis”.

3. It is to highlight the idea of “totality”.

WHAT SHOULD WE BE CONSCIOUS OF IN WORSHIP?

David highlighted the following:-

1. Glory

God truly and fully deserves all the glory we can give Him!

2. Strength

God must be thanked with utmost gratitude for the Source of strength that is found in Him.

3. Holiness

Not least is appreciation of the holiness of God. It is well described as “beautiful!”
