Psalm 26:8a "LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house"

Day 199 – Psalm 26

“LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house” Psalm 26:8a

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE FAITH IN GOD?

To truly know God is to love Him. To know the Lord would also involve loving God’s House. This was how David understood his faith in God.

“LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house,
And the place where Your glory dwells.”
Psalm 26:8

1. “LORD”

a) This word “LORD” represented the way David understood his relationship with God.
b) He must have been familiar with the teachings of Moses.
c) Moses taught Israel much about “The LORD” (Exodus 6:2-4).

2. “I have loved the habitation of Your house”

a) The temporal aspect of God’s house was the Tabernacle (the two altars were to be found in the Tabernacle).
b) The eternal aspect of God’s house would be heaven itself (Psalm 23:6).
c) David found a deep and genuine love for God’s House (both aspects).

3. “And the place where Your glory dwells”

a) God’s glory was indeed associated with the Tabernacle.
b) His glory descended upon it when Moses dedicated it (Exodus 40).
c) However this special manifestation of God’s glory was not something that David had ever seen!
d) Nevertheless David could speak of God’s house as the place His glory dwelt.
i) It would require deep insight to make this statement.
ii) It would require a special faith in God to speak of His glory in this manner.
iii) It would require a very special sense of sensitivity to the Lord to revel in the glory of the Lord’s house (without ever actually having seen its manifestation).
