Day 198 – Psalm 26

“I will go about Your altar, O LORD” Psalm 26:6b

WORSHIPPNG THE LORD

Vindication from the Lord was important to David! Worship of the Lord was just as important to him! If he could not be vindicated by the Lord because he was guilty, then he would also not be able to come to the altar of the Lord (Psalm 26:6b).

ASPECTS OF WORSHIP HIGHLIGHTED

Worship in the days of David involved God’s altar. There sacrifices were laid as an offering to the Lord. But there were other aspects of worship that were just as important.

“I will go about Your altar, O LORD,
That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving,
And tell of all Your wondrous works.”
Psalm 26:6b-7

1. “I will go about Your altar, O LORD”

a) There were two main altars in the Old Testament times.
b) The altar was the main way of offering worship to God.
i) There was the “altar of the burnt offering” (Exodus 27:1-8; Leviticus 4:7)
ii) There was the altar of incense (Exodus 30:1-10).
c) David had the highest regard for the worship of the Lord.

2. “That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving”

a) Each animal sacrifice would be offered with thanksgiving in the heart.
b) David would also verbally declare his faith in the Lord
i) Through worship.
ii) Through testimony bearing.

3. “And tell of all Your wondrous works”

a) David would be more than happy to tell of God’s many wondrous works.
b) He could do this in a number of ways, but especially through his psalms! Many of his psalms extol the wondrous works of the Lord.
