“He restores my soul” Psalm 23:3

APPLICATION IN REAL-LIFE

What did it really mean to have God as Shepherd? David readily made the following observations.

<blockquote”He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for You are with me.
Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.”
Psalm 23:3-4

1. Restoration of the soul

a) There would be times when the soul needs to be refreshed and restored.
b) The Good Shepherd would see to the restoration of the soul.

2. Leading in life

a) Life’s paths are many to choose from.
b) Many mistakes are made because of poor choices.
c) Mercifully the Lord leads us
i) In paths of righteousness
ii) For His name’s sake

3. Evil all around

a) From wicked enemies who make the path of life seems like “a valley of the shadow of death”.
b) From the Evil One himself (1 Chronicles 21:1)
c) Fear is fended off through faith in the Personal Presence of God felt

4. Divine Comfort

a) The rod and staff are the tools of trade of a shepherd.
b) They also represent the comforting personal presence of the Lord.
