“Many bulls have surrounded Me” Psalm 22:12a

POWERFUL ENEMIES

Sometimes problems in life are small. At other times problems in life can be very daunting. The latter is indicated in the following text.

“Many bulls have surrounded Me;
Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me.
They gape at Me with their mouths,
Like a raging and roaring lion.”
Psalm 22:12-13

1. Bashan

a) Geographically
i) This is a reference to a fertile region.
ii) Because it is fertile bulls reared here would be “strong”.
b) Historically
i) King Og of Bashan was the famous king who opposed Israel (Deuteronomy 3:1).
ii) His fame was linked to that of Sihon, king of the Amorites (Deuteronomy 3:2).
iii) God had to personally deliver Israel from these two powerful kings in the days of Moses.

2. Imagery employed

a) Strong bulls of Bashan.
b) A raging and roaring lion.

3. Significance
