Day 157 – Psalm 21

“For You meet him with the blessings of goodness” Psalm 21:3a

THE BLESSINGS OF GOD

It is natural to desire and to seek the blessings of God (Psalm 1:1). The following text reveals what the Lord blessed David with.

“For You meet him with the blessings of goodness;
You set a crown of pure gold upon his head.
He asked life from You, and You gave it to him-
Length of days forever and ever.”
Psalm 21:3-4

1. “Blessings of goodness”

a) This is a general reference to God’s blessings.
b) The main characteristic found in all of God’s blessings is “goodness”! (James 1:17)

2. “You set a crown of pure gold upon his head”

a) A crown of pure gold would set off the king in his finest moment of glory.
b) It does not have to be a reference to coronation.
c) It would be a fitting touch to wear this special crown of pure gold as a symbol of great victory given by the Lord.

3. “He asked life from You”

a) The king would ask to be preserved in battle.
b) To survive a battle would be a good blessing from the Lord.
c) But to enjoy “length of days forever and ever”- that would be an illustration of a “blessing of goodness”.
d) God had given more to David than what he had asked for.

SEEKING THE BLESSINGS OF THE LORD

The Lord has graciously promised blessing to all His people (Psalm 3:8). However these blessings were never meant to be taken for granted. They must be humbly sought in prayer.

David provides for us a fine example of how one may seek and obtain the blessings of goodness. May we find the blessings of God in our life!
