Psalm 19:10a "More to be desired are they than gold"

Day 146 – Psalm 19

“More to be desired are they than gold” Psalm 19:10a

HOW DO YOU VALUE GOD’S WORD?

Ask David this question, and you will have the following answer.

“More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.”
Psalm 19:10-11

1. The worth of fine gold

a) David understood the value of fine gold.
b) He rose from a humble background as a shepherd lad to a great king in Israel and with that came much wealth.

2. “More to be desired are they than gold”

a) The worth of God’s word was measured against fine gold.
b) God’s word was to be desired more than fine gold.

3. “Sweeter than honey”

a) Honey was used from the earliest times as a sweetener.
b) It was then the sweetest substance known in those days.
c) The word of God was measured against honey and the former was declared much sweeter.

4. “By them Your servant is warned”

a) The Word of God gave much wisdom.
b) Through Divine wisdom David was warned against falling into the traps of wicked enemies.

5. “And in keeping them there is great reward”

The reward part was mentioned last, most appropriately. One does not keep the Word of God for reward’s sake! The mention of reward serves to give added value to the worth of the laws of God.
