FEATURES OF A WONDERFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

David shows us that it is possible to have a wonderful relationship with God. In review, we may note the following features highlighted:-

1. Declaration of faith in God (Psalm 16:1-2)

2. Determination to be faithful and loyal to God always (Psalm 16:4)

3. Delighting in God (as his inheritance) (Psalm 16:5-6)

FILLED WITH THE LORD’S WORD

One of the things that David treasured much was the knowledge and wisdom that God gave to him.

“I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel;
My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
I have set the LORD always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”
Psalm 16:7-8

1. Counsel from the Lord

a) David sought the Lord’s counsel often (1 Samuel 23:4, 10-12).
b) The Lord’s counsel saved his life time and again.

2. “My heart also instructs me in the night seasons”

a) David did not take God’s counsel lightly.
b) He determined that he would do his part in pondering over what the Lord had spoken to him “in the night seasons”.

3. “I have set the LORD always before me… He is at my right hand”

a) This was a truly wise decision.
b) God Himself would be His counselor.
c) Consequently, David would be steadfast (He would “not be moved”).

4. In humble response

David’s heart taught him to say, “I will bless the LORD.” (Psalm 16:7a)
