Day 335 – Psalm 134

“Behold, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD…” Psalm 134:1a

THE LAST SONG OF ASCENTS

The faithful pilgrims have arrived safely at the sanctuary of the Lord to offer worship. It is right and fitting that the last Song of Ascents should describe worship in the house of the LORD.

“Behold, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD,
Who by night stand in the house of the LORD!
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.
The LORD who made heaven and earth bless you from Zion!”
Psalm 134:1-3

1. Different names employed to describe the place of worship

Three different names were used:-

a) Zion
b) House of the Lord
c) Sanctuary

2. The servants of the LORD

a) They would certainly be the Aaronic priests.
b) The Levites would also be included as “the servants of the LORD” in the sanctuary context.
c) The main activities are held in the day time.
d) But the tabernacle priests have to keep the sanctuary lamps aglow throughout the night.

3. A Call to bless the Lord’s name

a) These servants of the Lord lead in the worship of the Lord.
b) Their ministry must always include the blessing of the Lord’s name.

4. A precious benediction

a) This is pronounced on all faithful pilgrims who take the trouble to travel to Jerusalem.
b) The source and power of this blessing is not from the priests but from the Lord God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth!
