Day 317 – Psalm 122

“Let us go into the house of the LORD.” Psalm 122:1b

SUPERSCRIPTION: A Song of Ascents. Of David.

BASIC ACKNOWLEDGMENT

This particular Song of Ascent was ascribed to King David. The love of David for the House of the Lord was well-known and wonderfully attested in the Scriptures.

“I was glad when they said to me,
‘Let us go into the house of the LORD.’
Our feet have been standing
Within your gates, O Jerusalem!
Jerusalem is built
As a city that is compact together,
Where the tribes go up,
The tribes of the LORD,
To the Testimony of Israel,
To give thanks to the name of the LORD.
For thrones are set there for judgment,
The thrones of the house of David.”
Psalm 122:1-5

1. Gladness of heart

a) To go to the house of the Lord.
b) To just stand in the gates of Jerusalem.

2. Building of Jerusalem

a) David was personally responsible for the building of the city of Jerusalem.
b) It was a city that was “compact together” (well-planned and neatly arranged).

3. The purpose

a) To bring all the tribes together as one compact whole, united in worship of God.
b) To cultivate a spirit of joy and thanksgiving.
c) To establish and strengthen the thrones of David. (The royal line would climax in the Messianic Son of David).
