Day 312 – Psalm 119:169-176

“My lips shall utter praise, for You teach me Your statutes.” Psalm 119:171

CONCLUDING A LONG MEDITATION

Psalm 119 was devoted to extolling the Word of God. With this segment (Psalm 119:169-176), the psalmist brings to a conclusion his long meditation on the commandments of God.

1. A humble servant of God

a) The psalmist speaks of being a humble servant of God (Psalm 119:176b).
b) He confesses that he is not strong and he is also prone to going astray (Psalm 119:176a).

2. A humble declaration of what he has discovered about the Word of God

a) God’s commandments are truly righteous (Psalm 119:172b).
b) God’s judgments can truly offer significant help (Psalm 119:175b).

CONCLUDING IN PRAYER

The psalmist concluded his long meditation on the Word of God with a humble prayer.

1. He cries out for understanding of God’s word (Psalm 119:169b).

2. He prays for deliverance {from his enemies} (Psalm 119:170b).

3. He prays for Divine help to be given (Psalm 119:173a).

4. He prays for protection and preservation (Psalm 119:175a).

5. He prays that God would seek him out when he goes astray (Psalm 119:176a).

CONCLUDING WITH A HEART-FELT RESPONSE

The psalmist did not just ask for Divine help in times of difficulty. He determined that he would not fail to do his part. The response of the psalmist is worth studying and emulating. May our own meditation on God’s Word lead us to make appropriate response.

1. His lips will offer praise to the Lord (Psalm 119:171a, 175a).

2. His tongue will speak of God’s word (Psalm 119:172a).

3. He has chosen God’s precepts (Psalm 119:173b).

4. He will delight in the Lord’s word (Psalm 119:174b).

5. He will never forget God’s commandments (Psalm 119:176c).
