“So shall I keep Your law continually, forever and ever.” Psalm 119:44

HOLY ASPIRATIONS

The psalmist shares from his heart how he would respond to the Lord when he receives the Lord’s mercies and deliverance.

“So shall I keep Your law continually,
Forever and ever.
And I will walk at liberty,
For I seek Your precepts.
I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings,
And will not be ashamed.
And I will delight myself in Your commandments,
Which I love.
My hands also I will lift up to Your commandments,
Which I love,
And I will meditate on Your statutes.”
Psalm 119:44-48

b) Aspiration to seek God’s precepts.
c) Aspiration to have boldness to speak of God’s testimonies before kings.
d) Aspiration to never be ashamed of God’s word.
e) Aspiration to delight in God’s commandments.
f) Aspiration to always praise God for His word (this is the idea behind “the lifting up of hands”).
g) Aspiration to meditate on the Lord’s statutes.

2. A powerful underlying force is noted

a) A love for God’s word is openly declared (twice over).
b) This love for the Lord’s word has come about through many and varied experiences with the reality and the power of God’s word.
c) This love for the Lord’s word is a result of careful cultivation.

3. With reference to life

The psalmist declares that he would consciously “walk at liberty” because of the word of God. He is not shackled by worry or fear. His confidence in the Lord enables him to walk with enlightenment and confidence that the Lord’s mercies would be sufficient for him.
