“The right hand of the LORD…” Psalm 118:16a

A POWERFUL THEME

The psalmist was filled with a great sense of joy as he contemplated on what the Lord had done for him. As he thought about the deliverance God had granted, his focus was on “The right hand of the LORD”.

“The right hand of the LORD is exalted;
The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.
I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of the LORD.
The LORD has chastened me severely,
But He has not given me over to death.”
Psalm 118:16-18

1. “The right hand of the LORD”

a) This is a reference to the Power of God at work.
b) The right hand of God is exalted.
i) Over the enemies.
ii) This is a typical reference to victory in war.
c) The right hand of God does valiantly.
i) Valour in battle is significant.
ii) God’s right hand was truly valiant when He came to battle for His people.

2. The danger the psalmist faced

a) He could have died but God preserved him.
b) He survived the battles with his enemies.
c) He lived… and found new purpose in life.
d) He would declare the mighty works of God.
e) The psalmist recognized that God was chastening him even in this act of deliverance.
f) His gratitude was deeply laced with humility.
