Psalm 114:7a "Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord..."
Day 249 – Psalm 114
“Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord…” Psalm 114:7a
THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD
As the psalmist reflected on the Exodus of Israel out of Egypt, and traces the journey all the way to Canaan, he wanted above all, to highlight “the presence of the Lord”.
“Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
At the presence of the God of Jacob,
Who turned the rock into a pool of water,
The flint into a fountain of waters.”
Psalm 114:7-8
1. “The Presence of the Lord (God)”
a) This was something that stood out to the psalmist.
b) God’s presence represented many things; above all His great Power.
2. “Tremble, O earth”
a) An appropriate response is suggested.
b) The earth should tremble before God.
3. Tough conditions
a) Water was scarce in the wilderness.
b) Israel complained again and again concerning the water supply.
4. God’s answer to their complaint
a) He turned “the rock” into a pool of water.
b) The composition of the rock was “flint” (a very hard material).
c) Yet, before the Presence of God the flinty rock became a pool of water.
AN ATTEMPT TO APPRECIATE AFRESH THE LORD
The psalmist’s attempt to help his readers to appreciate God afresh is obvious.
