“Praise the name of the LORD!” Psalm 113:1c

A CALL TO PRAISE GOD

Psalm 113 is another anonymous psalm. The theme of this psalm is to call on all servants of God to praise the Lord.

“Praise the LORD!
Praise, O servants of the LORD,
Praise the name of the LORD!
Blessed be the name of the LORD
From this time forth and forevermore!”
Psalm 113:1-2

1. A strong call to praise God is issued

a) The word “praise” is used three times in quick succession.
b) The word “LORD” is employed in close association with the call to praise.

2. “O servants of the LORD”

a) The phrase would cover a number of people who are called “servants of the LORD”.
i) The priests
ii) The Levites
iii) The kings
iv) The prophets
b) This phrase may be applied in a more general sense today.
i) It would apply to all who hold any ecclesiastical office.
ii) It would also apply to anyone actively serving the Lord.

3. “Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and forevermore”

a) The focus is the LORD and His glorious Name.
b) God’s name ought to be given the highest regard.
c) The call to give due praise to God forevermore is full of merit.
d) All good servants of God ought to encourage such a spirit of worship and praise!
