“Blessed is the man who fears the LORD…” Psalm 112:1b

BLESSINGS TO THOSE WHO FEAR THE LORD

The authorship of Psalm 112 is unknown. The theme of Psalm 112 is a meditation of God’s blessings upon those who fear the Lord.

“Praise the LORD!
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
Who delights greatly in His commandments.
His descendants will be mighty on earth;
The generation of the upright will be blessed.”
Psalm 112:1-2

1. “Praise the LORD”

a) This is a call to offer praise to God.
b) The reasons for this call to praise God are given in Psalm 112.

2. “Blessed is the man”

a) The man who fears the Lord.
b) The man who delights greatly in His commandments (Psalm 1:1-2).

3. Some blessings highlighted

a) Blessings promised for generations.
i) The present generation will be blessed.
ii) The upright who fear the Lord will never lack God’s blessings.
b) Blessings promised for the generations to come.
i) This truth is found in all the Covenants of God.
ii) The focus is never just on the present generation.
iii) It is God’s prerogative to promise blessings for the generations to come.
c) His descendants will be mighty on earth.
i) The descendants will certainly not be insignificant and weak.
ii) They can become “mighty on earth” through God’s blessings.
