“He has given food to those who fear Him…” Psalm 111:5a

EXAMPLES OF THE GLORIOUS WORKS OF GOD

What are some examples of the works of God? The following text is “classic”. It reminds the reader of what the Lord had done for His people.

“He has given food to those who fear Him;
He will ever be mindful of His covenant.
He has declared to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.”
Psalm 111:5-6

1. The context in which God performs His mighty works

a) The context of the Abrahamic Covenant is in mind (Genesis 15).
b) God had promised Abraham the following:-
i) His descendants will be blessed.
ii) They will be given the land of Canaan as a heritage.

2. God’s glorious works

a) He had indeed given food to the children of Israel throughout the wilderness journey.
i) He provided life-giving water.
ii) He gave them manna.
iii) He further gave them quails.
b) The significance of these great works of God.
i) He had shown His people the extent of His glorious power.
ii) He had shown them what it means to be “His people” (Deuteronomy 7:6).
iii) He showed them that He was a Covenant-keeping God.

3. Israel’s part

a) To study the works of God.
b) To learn deep and spiritual lessons about God and what it means to be included in His everlasting covenant.
