Day 220 – Psalm 109

“Let their name be blotted out.” Psalm 109:13b

POSTERITY AND NAME

These things mattered very much in the days of King David. These things should matter to everyone through all ages.

“Let his posterity be cut off,
And in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD,
And let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.”
Psalm 109:13-14

1. “Let his posterity be cut off”

a) The wicked must reckon with this grim reality.
b) His posterity may be cut off.
i) Financial ruin
ii) Persecution from other wicked people

2. “And in the generation following let their name be blotted out”

a) The names of the wicked will not be remembered.
b) Their name could well be extinguished from memory.
c) All in one generation!

3. Iniquities of the parents

a) Father
i) He will have to account for his sin before God.
ii) There may not be atonement for the impenitent wicked.
b) Mother
i) The sin of a wicked mother is just as grievous.
ii) Wickedness will be dealt with severely.
iii) The sins of the unrepentant wicked will not be blotted out but will be remembered by the Lord.
