Day 186 – Psalm 107

“Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble…” Psalm 107:13a

THE SECOND TIME AROUND

This was not the first crisis that the children of Israel found themselves in. Once again, the psalmist had to write these solemn words.

“Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
And He saved them out of their distresses.”
Psalm 107:13

1. The first time

a) Similar words were recorded (Psalm 107:6a).
b) God delivered them out of their distresses (Psalm 107:6b).
c) What did they learn from the first experience?
Apparently, very little had been learned!

2. Another crisis

a) Once again the children of Israel cried out to the Lord.
b) They had no choice for their hearts were brought down low.
c) There was no one who would or could help them.
d) Thus they cried out to the LORD in their trouble.

3. “He saved them out of their distresses”

a) Once again, God proved Himself
i) To be a good God.
ii) To be a merciful God.
b) He saved them
i) This is the same idea as “delivered”.
ii) “Saved” and “delivered” were interchangeable words in the psalms especially.
iii) God came to their rescue in their darkest hour of need.
c) Would the children of Israel learn anything from this second crisis?

This thought is worth pondering over honestly and humbly.
