TROUBLES IN LIFE

How should we understand troubles in life? Wherein is the origin of troubles? Different people will offer a variety of possible reasons as to why troubles come about. We have an interesting and important perspective offered in the following text.

“Therefore He brought down their heart with labour;
They fell down, and there was none to help.”
Psalm 107:12

1. “Therefore He”

a) He
i) This is a reference to God Himself.
ii) He is the One who created the distress for the children of Israel.
iii) God was chastening the children of Israel.
b) Therefore
i) There were reasons why God had to take this approach of chastising.
ii) The short answer is that they had sinned; they had rejected His laws (Psalm 107:11).

2. “He brought down their heart with labour”

a) “Labour” in this context:-
i) As refugees in foreign lands.
ii) As slaves.
iii) They were forced to labour and were often severely short-changed!
b) “They fell down”
i) In weariness
ii) In despair
c) “And there was none to help”

Their idols could not help them. Their former allies did not help them either. There was no support from God because they had turned their back on Him, rejecting all His counsels. They were in desperate straits!
