“Because they rebelled against the words of God…” Psalm 107:11a

EXAMINING SOME REASONS FOR THEIR AFFLICTION

The psalmist was candid in his appraisal as to why Israel underwent such affliction.

And despised the counsel of the Most High.”
Psalm 107:11

c) Moses took time to explain the laws of God (Deuteronomy).
d) The priests were assigned to be the messengers of God (Malachi 2:7).
e) God also sent many prophets to His people (2 Chronicles 36:15).

2. “The counsel of the Most High”

a) This is a reference to the Word of God.
b) It is also a reference to the advice or counsel given by the prophets.

3. Most inappropriate response

a) They rebelled against the word of God.

ii) They preferred the dictates of their own heart.
b) Despised the counsel of the Most High.

ii) They chose the teachings and practices of idolatrous people.

4. A telling commentary

The following text is a solemn and telling commentary about Israel’s response to God’s word.

His words, and scoffed at His prophets…”
2 Chronicles 36:16
