Day 181 – Psalm 107

“Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness…” Psalm 107:8a

AN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

An appropriate response is called for when God delivers and redeems His people. This appropriate response ought to be a constant refrain in our life.

“Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD
for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!”
Psalm 107:8

1. “Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD”

a) In part this is a lament.
b) Many cry out to God in times of desperation.
c) God hears and He delivers.
d) Sadly, few give thanks to the Lord for hearing and answering prayer.
e) This is just so wrong!

2. “(God’s) goodness”

a) It is out of the pure goodness of the Lord that He would respond at all.
b) His goodness is wonderfully evidenced!
i) It was deliverance or death.
ii) It was blessing or further desolation.

3. “His wonderful works to the children of men”

a) Not all works were recorded in the Scriptures.
b) But one can be sure that all God’s works are indeed “wonderful”.
i) Full of wonder
ii) Full of God’s goodness and mercy
c) Some of those works (as evidenced in the lives of Daniel, Esther, Mordecai):-
i) Preservation
ii) Power to succeed against all odds
