“Let the redeemed of the LORD say so…” Psalm 107:2a

APPRECIATING THE CONCEPT OF REDEMPTION AFRESH

What does the word “redemption” mean? Sometimes this word is used so often that we forget the significance of the word.

“Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
And gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the south.”
Psalm 107:2-3

1. “The hand of the enemy”

a) Israel had many brushes with powerful enemies.
b) The nation suffered much under the wicked tyranny of enemies.

2. “Gathered out of the lands”

a) Mighty conquerors sometimes adopted the policy of scattering their enemies.
b) The Babylonians employed this approach.
c) Thus Israel was scattered everywhere, in different lands.
i) East
ii) West
iii) North
iv) South

3. “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so”

a) God in His provision raised up a mighty Persian King called Cyrus (Isaiah 44:28; 45:1-7).
b) He issued a decree that allowed Jews to return to their homeland.
c) Those who were delivered were called “the redeemed”.
d) What would they say about God who had redeemed them from their distress?

Surely they would cry out “He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”
