“He turned their waters into blood…” Psalm 105:29

THE FIRST TWO PLAGUES

The first two plagues God sent were mentioned in the following text.

“He turned their waters into blood,
And killed their fish.
Their land abounded with frogs,
Even in the chambers of their kings.”
Psalm 105:29-30

1. “He”

a) This pronoun is a reference to God.
b) This pronoun was used consistently to refer to God in Psalm 105.
c) This pronoun was deemed sufficient to identify the Lord as the One who sent the plagues.

2. The first two plagues

a) The first plague
i) The rivers of water were turned into blood (Exodus 7:19-21).
ii) This plague lasted seven days (Exodus 7:25).
iii) The fish in the rivers died (Exodus 7:21; Psalm 105:29).
iv) However Pharaoh was unimpressed because his magicians appeared to be able to duplicate this sign (Exodus 7:22).
b) The second plague
i) Frogs were raised in great quantity (Exodus 8:1-7).
ii) The magicians appeared to have been able to duplicate this sign too (Exodus 8:7).

3. A puzzling phrase: “Even in the chambers of their kings”

a) Why was the term “kings” employed?
b) The term “king” was a general term for “one who rules”.
c) Pharaoh ruled Egypt with the help of rulers (Called “princes” and “elders”- Psalm 105:22).
